I'm finally done
all my assignments for the term. Now if I can just drag myself to three more days of classes and about 15 hours of exams...

I might have something more interesting to say again.

just in case you're not convinced that I have no life
I'm doing what I basically always do: writing a paper, and following that, I'll do the other thing I always do: a statistics assignment. I'm tired and I really don't want to do any more work, but so far no one else has volunteered. Poor, poor overworked brain. I'm going to have to spend break doing really mindless crap.

waiting for the miracle
only one paper to go... sort of. If you look at it another way, twoish, becuase I know also have to write for 5 pages about being an intern for amnesty international and hand that in on monday too. and I haven't started either of them, but that's okay, becuase I have some research materials, and will just spend all weekend writing. oh the glitz and the glamour. over soon. that's what I keep telling myself. over soon.

and a big hug to Agent K -- watch your mailbox.

yes, I should be writing my paper
but I'm sick of it. I've written 7 pages now, which is >1/2 of 12, which=good. But I'm still working out what to do for my last section. How do you support democracy in a country where 3 different armed groups, all interelated, all funded by drug money, have the country on lockdown and judges either get bribed or shot? Bulletproof vests for everyone? An apples for AK47s program? My level of cynicism is steadly rising, and this assignment is ugly. But don't take my word for it, oh great invisible audience,

go see Sasha's nasty assignment for yourself!

but am I writing it, or is it writing me?
I, like the lovely Miss Agent K, am also writing a paper today. I'm one-third done now (4 of 12 pages) which is good, but it's due Tuesday, which means the likelihood of me attending classes tomorrow is bad. On the other hand, I only have one more paper left after this, which is also good. And my mom called me this morning, which means I started writing late, but it was really nice to talk to her. She's arriving in Seattle on Dec. 23rd and I'm debating busing down to meet her. But for now, more trying to solve Colombia's problems. The working title of this paper: olombiacay isay uckfayed.

maybe I'll go for a shower instead of starting that next section... mmmsudsywarmprocrastination

all work and no play makes jack a dull boy
and me a dull girl, but I don't really have a plethora of options. Here's my party list:
  • November 23: deomcratization term paper due (mine's on how democratic aid should be provided to Colombia), also, Amnesty Internation Forum on Violence Against Women that I've been organizing as part of my internship there for the past two months
  • November 24: statistics assignement on multivariate regression due
  • November 29: romantic lit paper due, I will be writing on William Blake and Mary Wollstonecraft
  • December 7: romantic lit exam 12pm
  • December 13: modern criticism exam 3:30pm
  • December 14: ethics in world politics exam 8:30am
  • December 20: deomcratization exam 8:30am
  • December 21: statistics exam 8:30am

See, a lovely complaint-decoding calendar, so when I invariably start complaining about all the BS I have to do, it'll be easy to pretend to care!

I'm going to catch a bus now.

go read this
this!

I know this doesn't apply in entirety to all of us (yes Ness, especially those IR degree holders among us), but it probably applies to a scary number of our elected officials, not to mention those in the US.

is the end in sight yet?
Well, essay has been written, in-class essay (for better or worse) has been writen, which leaves me with only a lovely stats assignemnt to keep me up tonight (and trust me, it has every intention to). Plans for the future: bathing, breathing, eating, buying food, and maybe, just maybe, some sleeping in. That is, until I begin the next set of papers on Friday. But Thursday, oh sweet Thursday, I will spend literal hours doing nothing in your sweet embrace.

So, the issue becomes, when is everyone going to be in town over Christmas? I finish my exams on the 21st of December and I've been assured that my Bristol-dwelling family members will be returning on the 23rd (follow their irregular postings from across the Atlantic via those two shiny new links) and that sets me a wondering: Victoria people, will you be home for Christmas?

work-a-thon

this is one of those times I need a montage. My tasks for the weekend:

  • essay on the relationship between global economy and democratization due Tuesday at 2:00pm
  • in class essay on Adorno, Brecht, and Benjamin ( a bunch of guys who think culture does stuff) Tuesday at 9:30 am
  • evil statistics assignment on probability (as in "the likelihood that Sasha won't be able to figure out those formulas increases 10% for every one unit change in x -- hours it is past bedtime) due Wednesday at 9:00am

So, cue the cheesy 80s rock ballad, cut to me chewing on pencil, then to me typing, then...

I'm not usually one to resort to prayer...
But at this point, I'll do whatever it takes, so here we go:

Oh Americans, our neighbours to the South, I know we don't agree on gay marriage, or laws regarding weed, and I know you don't like being told what to do but at this point, the whole world is begging you: Don't sentence us all to another four years of this war-mongering maniac. We have enough problems without your village idiot running around starting wars for corporate interests. Please understand, it's in your best interest too, for if you should re-elect him, more of your sons will die over seas, the middle class will continue to carry the bulk of the tax burden, and you will have to watch your global influence recede. Please summon what intellect a misguided public education system has yet to destroy, and go vote for John Kerry, because he may be a Liberal Pussy, he may be a Northern intellectual, but at least he's not George Bush.
Amen.

And since I am ever the eternal optimist, and since I was so accurate in predicting the outcome of our last election (really, I was), here's my call:
the popular vote goes to Bush, but a majority of electoral college votes mean that the presidency goes to... MICKEY MOUSE

oh wait, I mean, Kerry.
